The socialists won’t give in to Ferenc Mádl
According to MSZP it’s not necessary to change the social package, the parliament should debate again the same text submitted to the President of the Republic and rejected by the same. The socialists are ready to discuss the question within an extraordinary session of the parliament.
MSZP fraction leader Ildiko Lendvai on a Thursday press conference in Budapest said: it is not clear what the objections of the president are with some parts of the package. In her view the package represents a step forward on both the financing and the collaboration between state and church.
President of the Republic Ferenc Mádl said last Monday that he would send the social package entitled ‘Modifications on some of the social statutes’ back to Parliament for reconsideration because in his view the new regulation may have a hurtful effect on those people who wish to take their basic social supplies from religious institutions.
