Salgó: negligence happened

Gusztáv Zoltai managing Director of the Alliance of Hungarian Jewish Religious Communities (MAZSIHISZ) told MTI that skinheads showed up at the starting ceremonies of Chanukah.
They held irredentist symbols shouting, “Hungary is ours! ”.
According to Zoltai police did not intervene claiming that the revisionist group had registered their program.

Salgó: negligence happened
Chief Commissioner of Police László Salgó on a press conference on Thursday expounded that as a police chief he would have tried to reconcile the parties on the date and time when registering the events. He apologized from the celebrating congregation for police negligence. He also instructed the Budapest Police Chief to secure all the sites within the city where different Chanukah related cultural events would take place with special care and consideration for the social sensitivity of these events.

The Hungarian Revisionist Movement’s point of view:
Several media brought the news according to which skinheads disturbed the jewish Chanukah celebrations at the Nyugati square on Dec. 4-th. This is a lie as it is. The Hungarian Revisionist Movement lead by Budaházy György holds a demonstration on the 4-th of every month to draw public attention to and protest against the June 4-th 1920 Trianon Peace Dictatum. These demonstrations have always been registered with the police.
Our 2002. December 4-th demonstration was announced in the first days of November for the Nyugati square. We did not think about the jewish Chanukah celebration and the police did not signal any conflict of our scheduling with other events. We were surprised by MAZSIHISZ telling us that they would come to the place starting from 18:00 since we knew we reserved the place until 18:30 with the police. Nevertheless we offered to leave the square at 18:00. Our generosity was rewarded by MAZSIHISZ thru starting their hebrew language music at 17:45. Heads are falling as a result of talk about skinheads’ antisemitic disturbances and nobody is asking for our point of view. Yet we would like to let people know that police did everything to keep things from getting out of control.
